Come meet the Artists! Opening Reception Activities: Live Interactive Community "Plastic Mandala Assemblage" intended to become permanent Public Recycled Art for Next Year's Exhibit, a "Make a Fish Wish” for the Planet Activity, Tabling by Non-Profit Environmental Organizations like Channelkeeper, Heal The Ocean, Surfrider, Isla Vista Food Co-op Downtown Market, Live Poetry, A showing of the environmental art film "Waste Land", Music, with Snacks & Beverages provided by the Co-op, etc.
I asked a dozen Local Artists to create recycled works of art centered on an environmental issue of their choice and to compose a narrative regarding the significance of their chosen environmental concern to accompany their artwork. Artwork is for sale with a portion of sales supporting The CAW.

I am overjoyed to have two works accepted for the incredible "Unite to Light the Night" Gala and Fundraiser. Such a worthy cause. I bought agate from a re-use store and refurbished it, and even included some of my childhood rock collection to imagineer these two warm and elegant illuminated agate companion works. Unite To Light brings solar lights and chargers to disaster areas, war zones and some of the millions of people who inhabit this planet but have no electricity.

No Waste EarthNO WASTE EARTH is a community recycled art exhibit with a focus on environmental themes. Featuring 10+ local artists, this exhibit reveals the personal motivations and passions behind the chosen themes, giving artists and viewers an opportunity to reveal their raw sentiment regarding the destruction of our planet, while encouraging knowledge and action on social and environmental issues.
Guest Curator and local artist Jami Joelle Nielsen received an Arts Enterprise Grant from the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative and the Santa Barbara Foundation to fund her proposal for a community recycled art show in order to foster community action and stewardship of the environment through art and science education. I had so much fun at the 24 hour Drawing Marathon that was "From Dusk 'Til Drawn"! From 5pm on Friday June 28th, to 5pm the following day, accomplished illustrators and child doodlers alike sat side by side making incredible art together at the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Santa Barbara. The closing reception will be held June 30th, 2013, 4-6 pm.

First Roosters, then Bulls, now TWINS! Susan Tibbles curates the Annual Juried Competition at the Santa Barbara Tennis Club and she has outdone herself yet again this year! The exhibit was judged by Susan Bush, curator of contemporary art at Sullivan Goss.
The exhibit runs from June 14th (opening from 5-7pm) thru July 5th, 2013. Come take a gander at the amazing interpretations of the TWINS theme!

The winners were announced for the 2013 Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative's Arts Enterprise Grant, and my proposal for a "Community No-Waste Art Exhibit" was chosen! My goal is to foster knowledge and encourage action on consumer, social, and environmental issues through visual media.The grant was awarded in May 2013, with the requirement that the exhibit conclude by March of 2014...so stay tuned for more updates and information on this exciting news!

My latest no waste art piece will be on display at the Tennis Club of Santa Barbara's annual Artist Invitational show, "Cock-a-doodle-do", an eclectic tribute to all things Rooster! I am a fan of the feathered, and created a piece, inspired by antique reverse glass paintings. The result is "Sir Reginald Rooster III". He is mixed media, made from acrylic, found frame, and recycled vhs tape which provides the underlying texture.
