OPENING RECEPTION FRIDAY MARCH 29th, 5-8 PM at the Community Arts Workshop at 631 Garden St.
Come meet the Artists! Opening Reception Activities: Live Interactive Community "Plastic Mandala Assemblage" intended to become permanent Public Recycled Art for Next Year's Exhibit, a "Make a Fish Wish” for the Planet Activity, Tabling by Non-Profit Environmental Organizations like Channelkeeper, Heal The Ocean, Surfrider, Isla Vista Food Co-op Downtown Market, Live Poetry, A showing of the environmental art film "Waste Land", Music, with Snacks and Beverages provided by the Co-op, etc.
I asked a dozen Local Artists to create recycled works of art centered on an environmental issue of their choice and to compose a narrative regarding the significance of their chosen environmental concern to accompany their artwork. Artwork is for sale with a portion of sales supporting The CAW.
Artists will confront important environmental issues such as: Ocean Plastics & Pollution, Climate Change, Species Extinction, Fast Fashion, Pollinator Crisis, Wildfires, Landfill Waste, Deforestation etc.

I am overjoyed to be awarded 3rd Place for "Moon Bringer", one of my three works selected for the annual SMALL IMAGES 2024 Juried Exhibit at the Atkinson Gallery at Santa Barbara City College. The other two works selected for exhibition are "Era of Atoms" and "The "Undiscovered Country".

Unite To Light brings solar lights and chargers to disaster areas, war zones and some of the millions of people who inhabit this planet but have no electricity.

My artwork "The Potato Queen" was donated to raise funds for this year's VADA Draw! The Visual Arts & Design Academy (VADA) at Santa Barbara High School is a unique school-within-a school that serves students from diverse backgrounds in grades 9-12, integrating academic coursework with career-focused art instruction.The VADA Draw raises more than 30 percent of VADA’s annual budget, funding art education for over 300 student artists!

NO WASTE EARTH is a community recycled art exhibit with a focus on environmental themes. Featuring 10+ local artists, this exhibit reveals the personal motivations and passions behind the chosen themes, giving artists and viewers an opportunity to reveal their raw sentiment regarding the destruction of our planet, while encouraging knowledge and action on social and environmental issues.

Guest Curator and local artist Jami Joelle Nielsen received an Arts Enterprise Grant from the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative and the Santa Barbara Foundation to fund her proposal for a community recycled art show in order to foster community action and stewardship of the environment through art and science education. In addition to the works of art on display, a personal narrative or description will accompany the artworks, satisfying a deeper curiosity as to the personal stories, origins, and creative impetus behind an artist or artwork. Join us in celebrating local artists, community and our planet!

I had so much fun at the 24 hour Drawing Marathon that was "From Dusk 'Til Drawn"! From 5pm on Friday June 28th, to 5pm the following day, accomplished illustrators and child doodlers alike sat side by side making incredible art together at the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Santa Barbara. The closing reception will be held June 30th, 2013, 4-6 pm.

First Roosters, then Bulls, now TWINS! Susan Tibbles curates the Annual Juried Competition at the Santa Barbara Tennis Club and she has outdone herself yet again this year! The exhibit was judged by Susan Bush, curator of contemporary art at Sullivan Goss.

The winners were announced for the 2013 Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative's Arts Enterprise Grant, and my proposal for a "Community No-Waste Art Exhibit" was chosen! My goal is to foster knowledge and encourage action on consumer, social, and environmental issues through visual media.The grant was awarded in May 2013, with the requirement that the exhibit conclude by March of 2014...so stay tuned for more updates and information on this exciting news!

I have the amazing opportunity to participate in Piano's On State, a community Music & Art Project! I get to paint a piano that will be out on State Street in November 2012 for the community to play and enjoy!

Out of over 100 artists submissions, I was chosen to be among 13 artists to design 2 of HIDDEN/CREEPY LA's Halloween Coffin Hunt coffins (say that 3 times fast)! Commencing October, 2012, One coffin will be hidden in a haunted Los Angeles location for a lucky person to find and keep, while the other is sold on Ebay to fund a kickstarter campaign for the project. My submitted cartoon was chosen as the winner of the University of California, Santa Barbara's Compost Pilot Program Cartoon Contest!
In an effort to divert 100% of the University's waste by 2020, a composting program has been started to promote sustainability on campus! I will have several stickers of my compostable characters in circulation all over campus! (2012)

My found object art piece, "The Butterfly, the Beetle and the Bee", is currently featured in a new Conducive Magazine Article entitled: Beyond Disposable: A Paradigm Shift in Consumer Living by Nicki Lisa Cole. I am so grateful to be a part of this healthy shift in responsible consumerism! Conducive is a magazine devoted to critical thinking about ways to deal with social problems and looking for viable solutions to dilemmas we face on both a local and worldwide scope. We also features articles covering innovative ideas and research accessible to a diverse audience of progressives interested in social change.

Their quarterly publication, "Leafnotes", includes art, poetry, short stories, and other personal expressions of Environmental awareness.

My latest no waste art piece will be on display at the Tennis Club of Santa Barbara's annual Artist Invitational show, "Cock-a-doodle-do", an eclectic tribute to all things Rooster! I am a fan of the feathered, and created a piece, inspired by antique reverse glass paintings. The result is "Sir Reginald Rooster III". He is mixed media, made from acrylic, found frame, and recycled vhs tape which provides the underlying texture.
